Facebook to follow Instagram and trial hiding likes: The next phase of social media?

Facebook is set to trial hiding likes from posts, the company has said, following on from tests conducted by subsidiary Instagram earlier this year.
The trial will be conducted in Australia initially and is based on positive feedback from mental health professionals around boosting users’ wellbeing. Users will still be able to see how many likes a post garnered if so desired.
“It really is just taking that number out of the equation, so that people can focus on the quality of their interactions and the quality of the content rather than on the number of likes or reactions,” Mia Garlick, Facebook Australia’s director of policy, told The Guardian.
There is no indication that the test will reach beyond Australia for now; as reported by the New York Times, the company

3 Ways to Combine Social Media and PPC For More Conversions

Social media is home to billions of users worldwide. 2.62 billion, to be exact.
And PPC has a proven track record: producing $2 for every dollar spent.
The only problem is: how can you leverage both?
Sure, you can run campaigns on Facebook or promoted posts on Instagram.
Meanwhile, you can launch targeted search campaigns on Google.
But, what if you could combine both, creating a seamless experience for users from start to finish?
Here are three ways to do just that and get more conversions.
1. Target specific social post engagements with Google Remarketing
Social media is rarely a place for more conversions. People are there to engage with their family, friends, and people they follow.
Users are rarely going on Facebook with the goal of purchasing products.
Sure, they may discover products on social, but the intent

How to Sell More on Instagram With Shoppable Posts

How often do people often visit your site?
For you to become successful, you need to rely on web traffic to increase conversions. But the thing is – what if the same people aren’t navigating your site every single day?
In a study about the online shopping behaviors in the US, 40 percent of users purchase products and services online a couple of times each month, while 20% buy every week.
While these numbers are encouraging, you can’t merely rely on your site alone to generate traffic and sales.
You need to utilize other platforms to market your products.
Take Instagram, for instance. It has 500 million daily active users, and approximately 80 percent of those users follow a business profile.
The platform has also become a lot more convenient since the introduction of

Zero likes given: Kahlua’s latest campaign was true to its roots – but portrayed a serious message

Last month, a curious exhibition took place in New York. The photographs showcased would have, by conventional standards, led to the exhibition being a complete dud.
Yet this pop-up showcase, put together by liqueur brand Kahlua and actress Jackie Cruz, proffered to showcase a different form of creativity. The pictures (below) had been uploaded to the ether of Instagram but had not received a single like between them.
For Kahlua, which has long portrayed itself as an ‘un-serious’ brand, the goal was to prick the balloon of solemnity which surrounds social media posting. Take figures from a survey conducted alongside the exhibition; of 1,000 US millennials polled, more than half said they had missed an important moment because they were trying to capture it on social media.
Perhaps more worryingly, three

Older demographics are great for social media companies – so why aren’t they being catered for?

Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok: generally speaking, younger generations are more likely to recognise and engage with the platforms at the latter of this list.
Social media platforms all started out as the domains of teenagers and young adults. Facebook was only for college kids back when it began in 2004. In 2013, Snapchat’s core audience was 13-25-year olds – and its CEO was only 23 – while now there’s TikTok, the preserve of kids and teenagers and perplexing to most people aged 18 and older.
But social media isn’t just for the young in age – the young at heart (for the purpose of this article, those aged 50 and

Now, as counterintuitive as it may sound, there is a swing towards short-lived content, which has to do with Instagram’s rise in popularity.
Instagram is increasingly being seen by brands as a dynamic platform from which to share their more informal side in an almost off-hand manner. Instagram is fully ingrained in our culture; celebrities make major announcements from it, people share their holiday photos on it, and even an egg has managed to find a way to cause a stir on it.
